Using a Sidewall Coring Tool as an example, a MathWorks engineer will show how simulation is used to analyze, design, and optimize a complete control system. Starting with a CAD model, mechanical properties will be imported into a desktop simulation model where system dynamics will be analyzed. A controller model will be added to the mechanical model to show how simulation lets you optimize the interaction of the mechanical components with the controller. Finally, code will be generated from the model that can be used for real-time simulation and testing to help validate the design before hardware prototypes are available.

About the Presenter
Terri Xiao joined MathWorks in January 2009 as a Senior Application Engineer. She covers the Simulink product family with focus on physical modeling and control tools.
她以前的工作经验包括四年t SySense Inc, a consulting company that specializes in guidance, navigation, and control systems for the aerospace industry. At SySense, she developed a variety of guidance and control algorithms for hypersonic unmanned aerial vehicles. She managed the Trajectory Optimization Project for the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Global Strike Weapon program, developed the energy management guidance law for the aero-assist Advanced Maneuvering Reentry Vehicle, and designed the optima global reaches guidance law for the aero-assist High-Life Aeroshell hypersonic vehicle.
Terri received her B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of California, Los Angeles. While pursuing her graduate studies, her concentration was in Systems and Controls.
